Koumelo Cave Hiking Trip – The Hidden Diamond of Rhodes

Participants will meet the local guide at Panagia Ypakousa (starting point), a graphic church, close to the small village of Archangelos. From this point they will walk 1,5 km to reach the roots of the mountain. In order to explore the enchanting cave, they will hike mount Koumelo wich has an altitude of 211m. At the top of the mountain they will gaze at the beatiful blue of the Archipelago, as soon as they reach the entrance of the cave. Inside, they will explore the deepest reaches of the cave which spreads for about 1.400 m² and they will get to witness the interesting speleological phenomenon of stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is steeped in natural history as there are indications of inhabitation by early humans dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Age.

Τhe participants may expect an excursion in the special Rhodesian landscape. A nature lover will adore it! The view from the mountain of Koumellos is breathtaking. The cave is a hidden diamond of the island that is not wiedly known. It is something that will arouse the interest of those who like hiking and caving, but at the same time it is open to everyone as it is suitable for all levels. The greek sun, the sea view of the mountain, the historically interesting cave of Koumellos and the Rhodesian landscape will be a memorable combinaion for every participant.
